Young People involved in Headstart in Cornwall created this website and every so often it gets a refresh
Now we are looking at a major overhaul...
What? Why? Who? How? When?
The Start Now website needs a bit of TLC so we’re planning a:
- Restructure to identify two separate sites with one landing page, two directions, some overlap:
- Y5 - 8: ‘Brilliant Me’ wellbeing journal content
- Y8 - 11: More emphasis on 11+ information / signposting
- Refresh Design
- Content Review
We want YOU!
We want young people to be fully involved in all aspects and get the chance to work alongside our fabulous web designers, Mat and Kat.
We are starting now and hoping to finish during the spring half term 2025.

YP aged 10 - 16 worked with our web designers, Iteracy, to create the design, and the functionality, they decided the content, came up with the name & created the logo and wrote articles, took photos, made films / animations and invented the brilliant ‘Connect Card’... Over time different young people have added to the site / refreshed the design and added content.
Since Headstart ended Start Now has continued to be really popular and it is now a recognised part of the Council offer for YP around wellbeing... and we are reaching out to more primary age young people so we need a rethink and it’s time for a refresh!
By the Way... What's a Connect Card?
After a really bad time online during Covid one YP who was bullied and groomed wanted to help other young people.. The Connect Card as a quick way to go straight to ‘Get Help’ on the website. To encourage YP to keep the card handy there is also Connect Content that isn’t in the navigation and you can only get if you scan the Connect Card...
Some ideas we're talking to young people about...
A Chatbot knows about the website structure, so depending on what you ask it can recommend different pages.
This is very early version called a ‘proof of concept’ - it is for you to test out.
As an example there are four pre-made questions you can ask (in purple to orange) or you can click "Something else" to enter your own question or statement.
The responses will be generated by the chatbot depending on the website contents. At the moment it's just getting the page titles, but we can set meaningful page descriptions for all pages on the site and improve the chatbot's helpfulness.
For safety it is restricted it to discussing mental and physical health issues, school topics and information on the website, If it is asked too many off-topic questions it'll stop responding.
